The man who signed a hundred commitments before asking for a single vote, and invited the people of Edo South to measure him against them.
Rt. Hon. Engr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama is the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District in 2027. He has done something candidates are rarely asked to do: put the whole of his intended work in writing, in public, before the vote, and sign it.
What he intends to pursue for this district in his first four years has been set down in writing rather than left to the platform. Every item in it was tested against a single question before it was kept: is this within the lawful powers of a Senator? Nothing in it promises the work of a governor, a local council or a ministry, which is precisely why it can be checked later.
The undertaking that binds all the others is the last one. At the end of every year in office he will give Edo South a public account of where each priority stands: what was delivered, what is under way, what has not moved, and the honest reason why. The full document will be published by the campaign in its own time, and the people of this district are invited to hold him to it.
Sponsor bills addressing identifiable needs of Edo South and of Nigeria, move motions on urgent issues affecting the district, and participate diligently in plenary and in committee.
Listen to the people of all seven LGAs, not merely during elections; maintain accessible constituency offices and channels for public complaints; hold regular town halls.
Scrutinise federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies through lawful oversight, and expose waste, inefficiency and corruption wherever it is found.
Scrutinise the federal budget, advocate legitimate priorities for Edo South, and monitor whether the provisions that affect this district are actually implemented.
Represent urban, rural and riverine communities fairly, and engage the federal agencies responsible for roads, power, health, education, waterways and the environment.
Report periodically on legislative activity, publish progress against every promise in the Contract, and disclose which remain outstanding and why.
You have given me your trust. This is what I owe you in return.Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, My Contract With The People
